Meet your grower Baldwin's Nursery
When Rob Baldwin bought his property in Upper Falmouth, near Windsor, NS, more than 20 years ago, it was a field of rocks, grass and hilly ground—not a tree in sight. Today, along with the maturing stands of hardwoods and conifers he planted, he has several acres of nursery stock—perennials, shrubs, trees, ornamental grasses, native and woodland plants, species to attract and nurture pollinators, and more.
Ask Rob what his favourite plant is, and it will depend on the season. For early spring, he loves witch hazels, hellebores, willows and native maples; in mid-season, native ladyslippers, rhododendrons and azaleas; in high summer, coneflowers, daylilies, hydrangeas and milkweeds are among his favourite choices. Ornamental grasses and evergreens are beloved because they offer winter interest, and of course as a forest advocate, he loves all native shrubs and trees.
This is Rob’s 20th year of operating Baldwin’s Nursery, and he continues to expand and develop his offerings, always focusing on plants that are well-suited to growing in Atlantic Canadian gardens. Congratulations, Rob, and here’s to the next twenty years!
