  • Birch Bark Canoe Launch and Flotilla Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site NS

Witness Master Craftsman, Todd Labrador and his apprentices launch two authentic Mi’kmaw-style birch bark canoes that were constructed at Kejimkujik this summer starting at 10:00 am at Jake’s Landing. The flotilla of canoes and kayaks will depart at 10:30 am and travel to Kedge Beach. Join park guides in the BIG Canoe for the paddle or rent/bring your own canoe or kayak (sign up at the Visitor Centre for the BIG Canoe). Welcome the flotilla’s arrival at Kedge Beach at 11 am and enjoy refreshments as we celebrate the ancient craft of birch bark canoe building at Kejimkujik.

This period during the American Revolution saw thousands of Loyalists immigrate to Nova Scotia making a significant contribution to a new nation, what would eventually become Canada. The finer details of camp life will be on display including camp cooking, washing, everyday tasks, blacksmithing and children’s games. The Encampment runs Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • 30th Annual Victorian Christmas - Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

Enjoy some hot cider and don’t miss the Parks Canada Victorian photo booth - it’s the perfect way to capture some holiday magic to share with family and friends. Event runs 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. both days and admission is FREE with a donation to FEED NOVA SCOTIA (non-perishable food item or cash donation).

From his voyages of exploration to his experiences at Saint Croix Island and Port-Royal, you’ll hear first-hand why he founded the “Order of Good Cheer” and how friendship and alliances played an integral part in the relationships between the French and Mi’kmaq. English program offered at 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and French program offered: 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day.
