Twenty years ago, a few passionate quilters got together to promote the art form and educate each other. Now close to 100 guild members put on one of the East Coast’s most colourful exhibitions, made even more special because it’s mounted just once every two years in Woodstock’s beautiful St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church. Since the first wine fest in 1995, the goal has been to provide islanders with a window into the wines of the world. Every May, dozens of vendors and hundreds of plant enthusiasts converge upon the downtown farmers market square for three hours of plant-hunting delight. Growers from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick come with their finest plants, from tiny alpine delights to magnificent magnolias to rare collections of ferns, primula, daylilies, and much more. Peter Davies, Annapolis Royal’s official town crier, kicks off the event at 1pm with a hilarious proclamation, and the eager plant hunters surge into the booths to talk plants and find their favourite horticultural delights. Bring cash, bring boxes, and enjoy. Information: 902-532-7777 or www.facebook.com/acraups.
