Port Rexton, NL

Port Rexton, NL, has something to be “hoppy” about. Last summer, wife-and-wife team Alicia MacDonald and Sonja Mills opened Port Rexton’s first ever craft brewery—the fourth for Newfoundland and Labrador—named for the beautiful town it’s located in. Port Rexton Brewery, on Ship Cove Road, currently produces five craft beers, including an IPA called Horse Chops, a robust porter named T-Rex, and Baycation Blonde, a blonde ale. They also roll out small specialty batches as well but with the recent purchase of a double-sized fermenter and brite tank, capacity and production will soon be increasing.

This dynamic duo is completely hands on, with Alicia as the head brewer while Sonja focuses on running the tap room and the business side of things. They chose to start a business in a rural part of the province because they both love the lifestyle and wanted their business to reflect the laid-back vibe that’s very much in line with rural living.

If you’re in Port Rexton between May and October, be sure to stop by the tap room where visitors can sample the beer and order half pints or full pints as well. Look for their brews at local bars and restaurants yearround. For more information, call 709-464-7807 or see their website portrextonbrewing.com
