Biscuits

Ingredients

2 cups (500 mL) all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons (20 mL) baking powder
1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) salt
1 tablespoon (15 mL) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (125 mL) cold butter
1 cup (250 mL) water

Directions

In a mixing bowl combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt and granulated sugar. Using a pastry blender or two forks, cut butter into the flour mixture until it resembles course crumbs. Add water and stir gently, taking care not to overmix, which will toughen the biscuits. The dough will be quite sticky. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and quickly knead 5 or 6 times. Roll or pat out dough to approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) in thickness. Cut out using a floured round biscuit cutter. Place on a baking pan and bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
