Steamed Brown Bread
Ingredients
Makes 1 loaf
- ½ cup (125 mL) all purpose flour
- ½ cup (125 mL) cornmeal
- ½ cup (125 mL) whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp (5 mL) baking soda
- ½ tsp (2 mL) salt
- ½ cup (125 mL) molasses
- 1 cup (250 mL) sour milk
Directions
Into a bowl, sift together the flour, cornmeal, whole wheat flour, soda and salt. Add the molasses and sour milk. Stir until well mixed. Pour into a 1 to 1½ quart greased mould. Steam 2½ to 3 hours.
