Saltscapes Blog

Ages, stages, and magazines

Truth is, I’m still recovering from the weekend. I had both a wedding and baby shower to attend (not for the same couple), and firefighting training all day Saturday and Sunday.

We are  all embarking on new lives of sorts—a new life as a married couple, a new life as parents, a new life as a rookie volunteer firefighter.

During the past few years Saltscapes’ staff have had a few weddings (mine included) and babies (not mine); family members have passed away—most recently our editor-in-chief’s mother, Charlotte Gourlay.

The ebb and flow of life. And yet there are people, places and things to anchor us and keep us strong.

One of my favourite things—dare I say first loves?—is to lay on the couch with a magazine. It helps to restore, renew, revitalize.

But I’m more interested in your reading habits—in relation to Saltscapes, in particular. Our May/June issue marks the magazine’s 10th anniversary, and it’s a good time to take stock.

From the beginning we told you that Saltscapes would showcase the best of Atlantic Canada. How are we doing? What do you like; what don’t you like; what would you like to see more of?

Perhaps you’re not a Saltscapes magazine reader, but have found us here in cyberspace. We value your comments about this site, as well.

A reader survey is going out with our March/April issue; you’ll also be able to access it electronically from this website. Or if you prefer, please provide comments below. We are keen to hear from you, whether your comments are good, bad or indifferent.

Help us better reflect the people and places, the culture and lifestyle in this region we love. We’re not embarking on a new life, just a new era—and I’m hoping it involves your input.
