Road Trip Day 15 & 16

A bit of a lay-up is planned for the next day and a half.

We hit Gander Bay in late morning and Jim was assembling fly fishing gear as soon as his feet hit terra firma. As regular fishing visitors to the Gander, we have friends in the community who are employed by the lodge we usually visit, so it was a bit of old home week camped there overlooking the river estuary.

The gorgeous weather we were enjoying is, of course, not welcomed by salmon fishermen (a perverse breed constantly seeking cloud and rain) and this was the handy excuse with the lack of afternoon and evening fishing success blamed on the bright sun.

We spent the latter part of the evening chatting with local strangers who simply stopped to say hello, and catching up with friends' lives.

Tuesday morning brought cloudy skies and threatened rain, including risk of thunderstorms. True to form, Jim landed and released two large salmon in the morning, but torrential rain and winds rendered open boat travel decidedly uncomfortable and precluded afternoon fishIng, so we retreated to the RV. With neither cell nor internet service, we resorted to reading books in the afternoon and enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends in the evening.

Tomorrow we will breakfast and replenish supplies in Gander then drive through Terra Nova National Park toward the Trinity area.
