World Famous Snowblower

Saltscapes contributor Alec Bruce steps up to buy the snowblower that wowed the world

By now, you've probably heard about the cleverly worded snowblower ad on the online classified site, Kijiji was written by a Moncton man, Weh-Ming Cho.

So far, the original ad has been seen by more than 465,000 people from all over the world, but for several days after it was posted, it still hadn't sold — until journalist and Saltscapes contributor, Alec Bruce stepped into the picture.

Bruce, who lives in Moncton, has, until recently, had a neighbour who was happy to snow-blow his place out after a storm. When he got the news that that neighbour was about to move away, he thought, "What am I going to do? I do not relish shovelling."

Then he heard about the ad and checked it out. "It was the height of hilarity," he says. "I'm from Moncton and he's from Moncton and I'm a writer by profession and he's a writer by inclination, and I thought, the synergy's perfect."

He met with Weh-Ming and made the purchase, and the rest is history.

Here's hoping that Bruce's new snowblower is, as reported, "a machine of snow doom that will cut a 29 inch path of pure ecstasy." We'll await his report after the next big snowfall.
