Our inaugural Saltscapes Top Dog contest, presented by AtlanTick Repellent Products, received hundreds of entries featuring your most beloved companions hiking, swimming, posing on the beach and living their best life in Atlantic Canada! Let’s see who came out on top of the pile.

How we did it?

To determine the Top Dog and category winners the Saltscapes team chose their top picks based on originality, quality, and creativity.


TOP DOG

Sam

Winner
Golden Retriever • Owner: Deb Blower


Land ho! Sam, an eight-year-old Golden Retriever is happiest on or in the water. When he is not navigating Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore, he loves to relax with a liver treat in his oceanside cottage gazebo.

Shetland Sheepdog • Owner: Janine Muzak

Sitting on the dock of the bay
Joey is a nine-year-old Shetland Sheepdog who is always ready
for an adventure, but don’t ask her to go for a swim. She doesn’t want to mess up her pretty grooming.

Stop and smell the flowers
Macca is
a three-year-old blue Border Collie who is usually on the move. He’s a sporty guy who loves to hike, swim, and paddleboard with his humans, and occasionally stops to smell the buttercups.

Splish, splash, no need for a bath
Indy is a three-year-old F1 Golden-doodle from Halifax, N.S. He is always ready for a good time wherever he goes. He loves a good stroll along the Halifax waterfront, going for a dip at Martinique Beach, and thinks there is nothing better in life than chasing after a tennis ball.

Milo

Small but mighty
Milo Blue is a six-month-old Bichon Frise/poodle from Green Bay, N.S. Give him a stretch of beach and see him run.

Tongue tied
Gus is a three-year-old Australian Labradoodle who is always camera ready. He is an avid rock collector and always finds a new one on his walks that he takes home to add to his collection.

Phoebe

Terrier mix • Owner: Erinn Hoffman

Don’t fence me in
Phoebe is a terrier mix who found her forever family in 2022. She was adopted from a rescue group in Texas. She has been through a lot in her four years but loves her new home in Nova Scotia and is happy to give kisses and shake paws for a treat.

Admiring the view
Coullah is a 13-year-old Blue Picardy spaniel. She still has a goofy personality and is a true coastal companion walking the trails of Chebucto Head and cruising Crystal Cresent Beach.

Catch my drift
Asher is a one-year-old Australian shepherd who lives in Baxter’s Harbour, N.S. He loves the beach but his main hang is at Sea Level Brewing, his family’s farm-based brewery in Sheffield Mills.

Tasa was a 12-year-old Golden retriever from West LaHave, N.S. Sadly Tasa passed away shortly after entering this photo contest.

Marlee is a six-year-old Australian shepherd from Williamswood, N.S.   She has been a constant companion for her human mom after she lost her husband to cancer last year. She is an only child who soaks up all of the attention.

Cute at the Cove
Wojtek is a smart, energetic, three-year-old Polish Lowland sheepdog who also goes by the names Shaggy Shark and Squirmy Wormy. His favourite pastime is searching the woods near his home for balls from the neighbouring golf course.

Just a dandy
Rue is a year old greyhound puppy. She loves all treats and toys, as well as doing tricks. She earned the nickname Smooch because she loves to give and receive kisses.
