French Toast

Ingredients

8 slices     day-old (slightly stale) challah or Italian bread
3     eggs
1 cup     milk
2 tablespoons     unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons     powdered sugar
1 teaspoon     vanilla extract
1 tablespoon     butter

Directions

Place bread in a 9 x 13 baking dish, making sure pieces do not overlap.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla. Pour over bread slices. Turn bread to make sure it is well-coated.

Heat a griddle or a large nonstick skillet to medium-high heat. Add butter.

Place bread slices on griddle. Cook 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned and cooked through. Serve with sliced strawberries and powdered sugar, if desired.
