Maple Apple Crisp

Ingredients

6          apples, any sort (Esther likes to use Gala)

1/3       cup (125 mL) dark maple syrup

1½       cups (375 mL) brown sugar

2/3       cup (150 mL) soft butter

1          tsp (5 mL) vanilla

1½       tsp (7 mL) cinnamon

1          cup (250 mL) all-purpose flour

1          cup (125 mL) rolled oats

 

PLUS

½ cup (125 mL) dark NB maple syrup

 

Lightly butter an 8x8 pan. Heat oven to 350⁰F (180°C).

Peel and thinly slice apples. Spread evenly in baking dish. Pour 1/3 cup (125 mL) maple syrup over apples in pan. Mix sugar and soft butter until smooth. Add vanilla and ½ cup maple syrup, add dry ingredients, mix lightly until crumbly and pour over apples.

Bake until top is brown and crispy, about 20 minutes. Serve hot or cold, with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. You can also drizzle additional dark maple syrup over each serving.
